OUR PRIORITIES

Fighting for our community. For liberty. For justice. For all.

AFFORDABILITY

We must restore peoples’ economic freedom and dignity. The billionaire class has to pay its fair share to bolster the working class that has helped build American cities and businesses into the cash cows they have become for the wealthy. Towards this, I will support legislative efforts such as the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act and the Social Security Expansion Act to relieve working families of financial burdens. Additionally, I will support the Public Banking Act to reinstate federal and state governments’ authority to provide fair banking opportunities to all by creating state-funded banks.

I will additionally work to restore governmental stimulus grants and packages and push for a Universal Basic Income while keeping a balanced budget by bolstering progressive taxation. To economically stimulate rural communities, I will help pass the BOOST Act which will equip rural families with online connectivity to engage in other opportunities.

Children are some of the largest populations experiencing homelessness and hunger in the country. As such, I will pass the End Childhood Poverty Act and support additional legislation to stimulate our youth.

PROTECTING DEMOCRACY

With the onslaught of domestic attacks on speech and human rights by our current administration, it is more important than ever to defend and assert our human rights. This includes re-enshrining, codifying and strengthening rights to free speech and protest for all in the United States.

Democracy is also highly dependent on the continued integrity of its operational structures. But with increased influence from oligarchs, some of these processes are being compromised. As such, I will push to overturn Citizens United and ban insider trading. Additionally, public officials must be held to a certain moral standard that I will aim to enshrine in our legislation with, for example, enforceable consequences for SCOTUS accountability measure violations through passage of the Judiciary Act of 2021. Additionally, Congress must continue to pursue impeachment articles for unlawful conduct by the President.

I will demand codified accountability measures to be implemented to protect Americans from executive overreach on roles constitutionally endowed upon Congress and the Courts.

PLANETARY HEALTH

With the United Nations now determining that we will not be able to stabilize below the already-catastrophic 1.5°C global climate average, we must safeguard our communities and prevent further damage. It is time for the United States to return to leading-by-example by passing reforms such as the Green New Deal and invest further in our Climate Civilian Corps.

As a survivor of Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Harvey and the devastating 2021 Texas Power Crisis, I have experienced the devastation of the climate crisis firsthand. I can tell you this is NOT some far-off doomsday scenario. But I can promise you that the reforms proposed here will protect what we already have and allow us to envision a sunnier future.

It is time to focus on community-powered tech development while training our workforce to lead a green tech transition. To this end, we need leaders willing to challenge oligarchs who are currently invested in subsidizing oil over subsidizing community development towards a green transition.

EDUCATION FOR ALL

While access to education has the power to lift communities as The Great Equalizer, meaningful training opportunities are becoming ever distant for many. Through supporting and creating legislation like the College for All Act and America's College Promise Act, I will advocate for equitable education access, creating tuition-free state colleges, community colleges and vocational training programs to prepare Americans with expanded career paths, apprenticeships and technical training.

Great schools demand great teachers. As such, I support measures like the RAISE Act to ensure that public education remains fully-funded and that fair pay is guaranteed for the nation's educators.

As a student borrower myself, I know the compromises people have to make to pursue an education. Supporting borrowers is imperative and I commit to strengthening the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program while expanding Pell Grants, support for HBCUs, tribal colleges, and minority-serving institutions. Additionally, we must be willing to create more programs to relieve the financial burden on millions of borrowers by investing in a diverse range of student loan forgiveness programs.

DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS

I’m running to bring the voices of all San Diegans into every conversation whether we are renters and student borrowers to queer folks, union workers, immigrants and everyone in-between.  I will work tirelessly to ensure that the government fails to muzzle us and strips us of our rights while keeping us safe  I will codify access to reproductive care and gender-affirming care, standing with women, gender minorities, and trans San Diegans. From Medicare for All to codifying Roe v. Wade to passing the Equality Act, you can count on me to pass legislation that puts you first.

Immigrants make San Diego and the U.S. great. It is time that our legislators recognized that. I will vote to defund ICE, strengthen DACA and focus on codifying paths to citizenship. I also support legislating protections for those with legal statuses that are currently dependent on the whims of the President.

Additionally, I will reassert our responsibility to fight for equity for BIPOC San Diegans, by banning gerrymandering and restoring constitutional desegregation mandates. I will also fight to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and affirm the Equal Right Amendment's ratification.

HEALTHCARE FOR ALL

Americans’ healthcare needs are ever present, regardless of employment status. Currently, their needs are also ever under-covered with millions of Americans taking on exorbitant medical debt and being one emergency away from homelessness. To combat this, we must implement a universal, single-payer healthcare system that eliminates deductibles and includes eye care/dental care/hearing aid coverage/mental health care coverage. Additionally any healthcare system implemented should afford abortion access to people nationwide and must cover gender-affirming care. The government must also legislate policies to prevent price gouging.

We must also increase government funding of medical research to subsidize drug pricing of new innovations once they are on the market. Now is the time to support government-funded bioscience and bioeconomy work in pursuit of benefiting people. While government oversight helps prioritize rights to healthcare, it can also ensure the health of continued innovation that allows our country to be at the cutting edge of research: a key component of our system which I, as a bioengineer, heavily advocate for. But this must be done to help common people, rather than at the expense economically, physically and psycho-socially.

INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY

This country needs a radical shift and how we engage with other states globally. While American politicians have touted their commitment to democracy, the Trump administration remains one in a legacy of presidential administrations that have not been defenders of Democratic values. Well, this is now exacerbated by an administration that means towards terrorism at home as well as abroad a legacy of inhumane foreign policy has plagued our federal government.

This country needs leaders who wholly value peace and a true end to endless wars. I will vote to reinstate and expand, temporary protected status (TPS) for displayed peoples and commit to voting against warmongering policies and legislation like the National Defense Authorization Act. Additionally, as the richest nation in the history of the Earth, I believe it is legislators’ duty to fundraise for humanitarian efforts, especially as we aim to correct expansionist policies of the past/present.

Current foreign policy is centered on tiptoeing around authoritarian figures and bowing to the whims of genocidal leaders. I will push for a new approach to the plight of Palestinians, Sudanese that ensures longstanding peace and harmony restoration of the rights and human dignity of oppressed peoples. This reducing foreign military funding in favor of diplomatic efforts.

HOUSING FIRST

Safe, stable, and affordable housing is a basic human right. I will champion policies that expand the supply of affordable homes, protect tenants, and support first-time homebuyers. This includes bolstering Section 8 housing vouchers, passing the Embrace Act to ensure immigrant families have equal access to housing, and enacting the Tenant Empowerment Act to give renters stronger protections and a voice in housing management. I also support community land trusts, rent stabilization, and investment in public housing to keep communities stable and affordable.

I will back transformative legislation such as the Community Housing Act, the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act, and the Green New Deal for Public Housing Act to modernize and make our housing stock more sustainable while creating good-paying jobs. San Diegans cannot afford to accept being unhoused, rent-burden or priced out, and it is time our leaders realized .

FUNDING FEDERAL PROGRAMS

It is time that the top 1% paid their fair share to the workers that have ensured their success. Instead of using our taxes to pay for endless wars abroad, it is time that Congress worked for the people it is meant to represent. These funds can be used to fund the Social Security Expansion Act, federally-funded public transit, equity initiatives. These investments allow us to build a future where scientific progress, economic security, and opportunity are not privileges, but rights shared by all.

TRADITION OF INNOVATION

Congress has also completely abandoned its responsibility to appropriate funds for publicly-funded programs covering a wide range of sectors from scientific research to social services.

If elected, I will support robust funding of SBIR grants, NSF and NIH grants, agency research efforts and community-centered science initiatives. Through progressive policy like the Green New Deal for Health, we can support people-centered research and development efforts in biotechnology, medical devices, artificial intelligence and biomanufacturing among other fields. Progress doesn’t mean pushing profits over people. We need leaders capping drug prices while supporting funding for research. I will fight for Universal Healthcare and protect medical innovation.

My extensive engineering background in research and policy-forward settings alike has uniquely equipped me with bold ideas to legislate on, such as creating government-funded LABraries to democratize science innovation and education.
